The Production Process of Blended Incense Beads

The Modern Artistic Beauty of Traditional Crafts

The following shows the common production process of traditional Chinese blended incense beads:
Material Selection:
Pick high – quality spices, Chinese herbal and other raw materials. Common spices are agarwood, sandalwood, musk, etc.; common Chinese herbal include cloves, wood incense, Angelica dahurica, etc. Sometimes use fruit materials like candied dates, almonds, etc. Some specific formulas also involve Chinese herbal such as astragalus, angelica tail, red peony, dilong, Chuanxiong, safflower, peach kernels, etc.
Processing:
For some materials, process them according to their characteristics and formula needs, like frying, burning, calcining, steaming, boiling, etc. This aims to change the properties, boost the curative effect or reduce toxicity.
Grinding:
Use a grinding tool to grind the selected and possibly processed materials into a fine powder. Base on the material characteristics to control the strength and speed during grinding to avoid affecting the aroma.

Sieving:Sieve the ground powder with a sieve of proper mesh number to get rid of larger particles and ensure the powder is delicate and uniform.

Ratio and Blending:According to a specific formula ratio, mix various spice powders, Chinese herbal powders, etc. together and stir well to form a fragrant powder for making fragrant beads. This step needs to precisely control the proportions of various spices for a harmonious aroma.

Perfuming (Optional):Pound the mixed incense powder and do other operations to make various materials integrate more fully and enhance the stickiness and texture of the incense powder.

Incense – Awakening (Optional):Seal and leave the mixed or perfumed incense powder for a while so that the flavors of the spices can penetrate and blend with each other, making the aroma more mellow.

Bead – Forming:
  – Manual Kneading
Take an appropriate amount of fragrant powder and knead it into beads by hand. Ensure the beads are of uniform size and shape during the process.
  – Mold Pressing
Fill the fragrant powder into various molds (such as pill – shaped, pavilion – shaped, tower – shaped molds), press it hard and then demold.
Drying:
First, dry the molded incense beads in the shade for initial solidification, and then dry them in the sun to keep their shape and aroma.
Modifying:
Polish, engrave and make other modifications to the made incense beads to make them more beautiful.
Incensing:
Seal and store the dried incense beads for a period to further improve the aroma quality.
Polishing:
Use a soft fabric to polish the incense beads to make their surface smoother and shinier.
Stringing:
According to personal preference, connect the incense beads with cords, etc. to make bracelets, necklaces and other accessories for easy wearing.
